When we are dehumanized we can then be viewed in the eyes of the law as less than human, as less deserving of our full human rights. Those acts of dehumanization forged human bonds with many people in America to give us a sense that we count.

It shows how much further society still needs to go when citizens and civil libertarians are pushing back on creeping police states asking to bring police practices in line with local values and state constitutional standards.
